Review: Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa

Review: Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa

It was a beautiful Spring evening when we escaped to the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa. The perfect location for some 'us' time. Located only a few miles from Chester City Centre in the beautiful village of Pulford it was just what we needed.

The hotel is owned by the Nelson Family who is celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa. Also owned by Nelson Hotels are The Pheasant Inn at Higher Burwardsley, The Bear's Paw at Warmingham and The Fishpool Inn at Delamere. All worth a visit.

Arriving at the hotel the two Receptionists were efficient and friendly, we were checked in and shown to our room. Located in the new wing of the hotel, we were booked into a deluxe room that was light, airy and very spacious with a fabulous super king size bed and a small seating area set back to relax and read the papers.

The Bathroom was beautifully finished with a good selection of Spa by Kasia toiletries.

Whilst I tried the various lotions and gels out my partner had a good rummage through the hospitality tray, which had a good selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and the all-important cookies!

The hotel has two options for dining. For a more informal 'pub' atmosphere then Nelson's Bar is perfect offering a good selection of 'gastro' pub food and the AA Rosette awarded Ciro's Brasserie offering Mediterranean cuisine which is located in a conservatory style setting to the rear of the hotel.

We decided to have dinner in Ciro's Brasserie and took a table overlooking the beautiful courtyard. The brasserie felt warm and welcoming. Steph our waitress for the evening was friendly and showed us both the A La Carte menu and Special menu.

Whilst enjoying a chilled glass of wine we went for starters of chilli and chorizo risotto and tagliatelle al pollo. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, just the right size for a starter as sometimes pasta dishes can be overbearing. For our main courses, I had the Asiette of fish (Salmon, sea bass, hake, scallop and tiger prawns) complimented with buttered new potatoes and a mixed salad. My partner had the Confit shoulder of lamb with mouselline potatoes and charred leeks. All our dishes were presented beautifully and perfectly cooked.

Not usually one to go for a dessert we couldn't resist the strawberry cheesecake with chantilly cream and strawberry coulis and treacle and pecan tart. Feeling full we headed back to our room where we could hear the wedding reception in the Grosvenor Suite just below our room in full swing. It did not disturb a good nights sleep.

The following morning we woke early to catch breakfast as we were booked in for our spa treatments at 10am. Breakfast was taken in Ciro's Brasserie. With so much choice we opted for yoghurts with fresh fruit but our willpower failed and we also had a full English. It was safe to say we were not going to eat for the rest of the day.

Spa by Kasia...

Spa by Kasia can be found to the rear of the hotel with it's own separate entrance but can also be accessed through the main hotel. As you walk through the corridors to the Spa the aroma of incense burning instantly calmed us. Our therapists greeted us with Asian Tea and took us down to the VIP treatment room where we were given an Elemis deep tissue full body massage.

The massage was customised to our individual needs. For me it was getting rid of the knots around my shoulders, sitting at a desk all day hunched over a keyboard is not good for posture.

Starting with us both lying face down we were both worked over vigorously. The therapists used a mixture of interesting techniques with arms and elbows, not just hands. This invigorating treatment is an hour long - a perfect amount of time to feel thoroughly indulged and reinvigorated.

A word of advice - avoid a full English Breakfast followed by this treatment!
