Review: Hogans of Hale

Review: Hogans of Hale

For the last five years, Hogan's of Hale has been entertaining guests with live bands and world class tribute acts, not to mention it's delicious dining - so when you add them together Hogans really does have it all...

Located in the heart of Hale, Hogans really does entertaining in style, and as we were fortunate enough to visit on a Saturday, we saw (and heard!) Hogan's full musical glory first hand.

The giant floor to ceiling illuminated bar is fully stocked with bottles of the finest, colourful liquors and large bottles of fizz, each person clearly reflecting Hogan's ethos of sophistication. Well dressed and stylish, you know you're in one of Cheshire's hot spots. Walking upstairs, where you'll find the restaurant, we were welcomed by staff who showed us to our table where we overlooked the bar and dancefloor – who doesn't love a bit of people watching?

A mixture of larger groups and couples filled the remaining tables; ladies enjoying a glass of wine or two with friends and excited for the jazz to start, ready to enjoy their Saturday night.

Whilst the restaurant décor may seem slightly more traditional than the bar style, the food and menu with its contemporary dishes and rich ingredients more than make up for it. Opting for a mixture of surf 'n turf, I started with the Roasted Scallops, Garden Peas and Chorizo with a Tomato & Caper dressing. Delicately presented and served with a smile, each ingredient blending perfectly with the other to create a very moorish and tasty starter. The Chicken Liver Parfait with Toasted Brioche and Home Made Chutney which the other half opted for was light, creamy and just melted in the mouth – a definite choice for myself next time around.

The following course was a real meat feast comprised of Sirloin Steak with all the trimmings and Roasted Lamb Rump served with Mixed Bean Casserole and Parmentier Potatoes. Served pink, the lamb was a real weekend treat. Succulent and tender with only the finest cuts plated up, the freshness of the meat transpired with each mouthful. As for my partner, on the drive home his exact words were, "that was the best steak I've had in a long time." What more can I say? He has enjoyed a steak or two in some of Cheshire's finest establishments. It was perfectly seared on the outside whilst moist and juicy on the inside.

Fillet steak Hogan's style

Choosing not to over indulge on this occasion, we passed on dessert though watching the desserts walk out the kitchen time and time again the Amoretti Roast Peach looked a little naughty. Perhaps one more bite wouldn't have been such a bad idea upon reflection, to share of course…

As the evening went on, with the hard bit out of the way, it was time to cosy up and get another glass of red in as the band prepared to help the crowd below dance the night away. The keyboard and drum began in unison and we looked down on smiling faces everywhere enjoying the live act with a cocktail or glass of pop in hand. The only downside was that one of us was driving, or we too would have joined the crowds on the ground.

The ever popular George Michael tribute at Hogans

You could quite easily spend the full evening at Hogan's, starting with dinner for two followed by an evening of live entertainment carrying on late into the night, there is so much to enjoy. Coming up over the next few months don't miss The Three Degrees and George Michael – the tribute of course – and certainly splash out and opt for the 2 course bistro meal ticket, you won't be disappointed.
