Review: Lunch Piccolino Alderley Edge

Following the recent glamorous launch of Piccolino Alderley Edge (with none other than celeb chef Gino D'Acampo making an appearance) we were really looking forward to experiencing a leisurely lunch at their latest Cheshire venue!

Located on London Road in the ground space of the former Pancea club Individual Restaurants has really pulled out all the stops on the layout (wow factor springs to mind). Seating 250 guests the restaurant brings a new meaning to 'all day everyday, dining' boasting; a 20 metre eat at open kitchen, wine boutique, island cocktail bar, private event space, an all year outside terrace with fully retractable roof and more exciting additions (we mention below) on the way soon!

We booked for a Monday lunchtime so obviously you can expect a generally quieter pace than at the weekend. Warmly welcomed by our female host Terry we chose to be seated opposite the kitchen with a great view of all the delicious desserts close by!

After being served with a chilled glass of Prosecco each we were ready to place our orders (hard to choose off their extensive menu).

I chose a starter portion of Trofiette Con Pollo – which is one of my favourite dishes consisting of chicken, veg, Parmesan cream and pine nuts. Always a winner! The main is £11.75 and portions are very generous - so if want a smaller version don't be afraid to ask, anything is possible at Piccolino!

I can never resist a side order of their fresh greens either; they cook with a wide selection of seasonal herbs and veg that compliment their dishes. Verdure is a mix of broccoli, beans, peas and basil and costs £4.00 - perfect with this particular pasta dish.

S ordered a veggie option – Parmigiana Di Melanzane – baked aubergine, buffalo mozzarello, Parmesan, tomato and basil £9.00. This you will find on the Menu under 'Al Forno' – dishes that are baked in their wood burning oven (on view from where we were seated) – natural, with no additives and imparting the most amazing flavours and aromas. So you think veggie is boring?! Think again!

Both dishes were delicious, flavoursome and not too heavy (so good choices for lunchtime) although being lightweights, we decided to take away our desserts to eat later.

Piccolino have a mouth-watering selection and it's hard to make a choice – I went for a Pistachio and Chocolate slice and S ordered a Strawberry Mouse (they almost look too good to eat!) at £5.00 each.

Just when we thought it was nearly over… along came our host again, this time to offer us a couple of complimentary Aperitifs to sample. Mine was the delicious Limoncella £3.50 (one glass definitely isn't enough!) and S had an equally good Patron XO Café £4.50 – similar but much better than Tia Maria!

So the verdict? Everyone in Cheshire is flocking to Piccolino Alderley Edge! Fabulous surroundings, warm friendly staff who can't do enough for you, great food and drink…
