Review: Piccolino Stockton Heath

Review: Piccolino Stockton Heath

Following hot on the heels of Piccolino, Knutsford - Piccolino in Stockton Heath has also recently completed it's own glamorous refurbishment so it was a great excuse to go over to enjoy a spot of Sunday lunch (Italian style!) in their new surroundings...

As a mainstay in Stockton Heath for 10 years already; you'll find Piccolino on Victoria Square situated on the high street. As you walk towards the restaurant, you'll see the addition of a brand new all weather alfresco roof terrace that features an innovative retractable roof so come rain or shine, if you want to dine out in the fresh air, you can!

There is also seating at the front on the restaurant on the outside pavement. Everywhere is furnished in the (now) signature Piccolino style - beautiful duck egg blue leather comfy seating, and classy, simple use of Carrera white marble, oak, antique brass and reclaimed woods.

We chose to dine in-doors (on the ground floor) which is a large space, airy and bright. The restaurant offers a wonderful combination of both modern and classic Italian dishes that they prepare in an open kitchen in full view of diners and the welcome is always a warm one.

Stockton Heath Piccolino - downstairs restaurant

When we arrived, it was already starting to fill up with families settling in for the afternoon, as well as a larger group celebrating a birthday. Piccolino caters for all types of events and their restaurants and experienced events staff are totally geared up to accommodate specific requirements.

Whilst we've enjoyed brunch and dinner at Piccolino, Knutsford we were yet to sample their hearty Sunday Roast sharing board which is a reasonable 25.00 for two (given the quantity, it's excellent value).

Looking down - the stunning seating at Piccolino Stockton Heath

You get a choice of meats to choose from for your Piccolino Roast; Chicken, Pork or Beef and all to savour with their delicious trimmings. It's worth mentioning that Piccolino have their own butcher's shop where a team of 9 skilled butchers source the very best meat, so if you are as passionate about provenance as they (and we) are their meat and poultry is fully traceable back to the farm!

There were 3 of us dining so we ordered one Beef to share plus a half portion of Chicken (ask your waiter - just halve the full cost). To accompany the meal, we had a Lunetta Prosecco (6.00 per glass) and a glass of red Merlot Sanvigilio 2013 (5.25 for small, 7.25 for large) as well as our favourite San Pelligrino Aranciata Amara water (2.75).

Offering the finest selection of wines and spirits - cheers!

Piccolino don't do anything in a rush, they aim to please and your wish is their demand! They want their customers to enjoy the experience from start to finish in their welcoming surroundings.

Depending on how busy it is when you order, expect at least 25 minutes from ordering to being served as it's all cooked fresh on the premises. Our mouths were watering with anticipation so we shared a couple of bowls of their bread to start with, which are all made by hand, using traditional methods (and very moreish - it was a bit of a carb fest!).

When the main's arrived we weren't disappointed - but sort of regretted eating the bread as it took the edge off our appetites.

The meat servings are very generous and accompanying the dish are hugeYorkshire puds, crispy roast potatoes and fresh seasonal green vegetables (with gravy served on the side).

Our Sunday Roast!

The Roast Beef was served medium-rare which is how it should be, although I personally prefer mine well done (but I forgot to say and I wasn't asked when I ordered it). The Chicken was well seasoned with garlic and herbs and was really tasty.

We really enjoyed our meals and we liked the Piccolino concept of a sharing board for Sunday Roast: it's something a little bit different and it's beautifully presented. There is definitely more than one serving each to go around so if you are coming with a few friends for the Roast, order a selection of different meats and mix it up a bit!

Sadly, we didn't have room for fitting in a Piccolino seasonal dessert (so we'll know next time to not order bread whilst we're waiting).

We'd have loved to have sampled their Torta al Limoncello (Lemon Cheesecake) 6.00 or possibly for a chocolate fix the Torta Caprese (dark chocolate and almond tart with their vanilla ice-cream) 6.00. Piccolino make their own ice-cream in-house using milk & cream from Gornall's dairy, Goosnargh, in the Ribble Valley.

We finished the meal with a refreshing Peppermint Tea & an English Breakfast Tea (from 'Tea from the Manor' - fine full leaf teas from the world's best tea gardens).

Stockton Heath Piccolino is as warm and welcoming as Knutsford, the attention to detail and quality of products is excellent.

For a chilled out Sunday lunch we'd recommend it - so gather friends and family, come along and expect to enjoy several happy hours wining and dining Italian style!
